Getting started with the Kortex network

The simplest way to put Kortex into use is to connect your own computer with a network cable to the available socket of the junction box that is in the room (NB for especially residents of buildings A, F, H and J buildings: check the junction box instructions). When you open an internet browser on your computer, it automatically directs you to register your computer at http://www.kortex.jyu.fi/en/index.shtml and adds the IP address (MAC address) of your computer to the registration form.

We recommend, however, that you consider getting a router. The router is connected to the free socket in the junction box with a network cable (NB for especially residents of buildings F, H and J: check the junction box instructions). Your own computer (or other device that uses the network) is connected to the router either by cable or wirelessly, according to the instructions that come with the router. When you open the internet browser after the connection, it automatically directs you to register your router at http://www.kortex.jyu.fi/en/index.shtml and adds the IP address (MAC address) of your router to the registration form. Please note that when using the router, the registration concerns the router, not the computer or other device that you have connected to it.

When the network’s eldest has accepted your registration, the registered device will fetch the network settings and your internet connection has been opened!
